Nova: A summer raspberry variety with good hardiness, good productivity and good disease resistance. The fruit is firm, pale red in colour, large in size and is harvested in mid-season. The berry is tasty, sweet and tart, and the stems are long, upright and not very thorny.
Habitat
Habitat
In the wild, raspberry bushes can be found in undergrowth, forest edges, and clearings.
These plants therefore tolerate partial shade and full sun, with optimal fruit production in full sun.
Size and habit
Size and habit
A raspberry plant will produce several canes during its lifetime. It will tend to sucker and spread to take up more space if not controlled by annual pruning.
Its canes grow to about 1m high and have a lifespan of 2 years. In the first year, they grow and capture energy, then produce fruit mainly in the second year.
Some varieties, known as primocane-fruiting, produce some fruit on one-year-old canes at the end of their first year of growth.
Eventually, several years later, your single raspberry plant will multiply to give birth to other clones of itself and will spread over a radius of 1 to 2m.
More details are available in our fruit bush pruning training.
Pollination
Pollination
Self-fertile, but better production is achieved through cross-pollination. Therefore, it is recommended to plant several varieties together.
