Hybrid poplar - Zone 3

It adapts to various soil types but prefers rich soils like loamy and well-drained clay soils over sandy soils. Avoid soils with a pH below 5. A pH between 5 and 6.5 is ideal for better growth.

Poplar is also a preferred species for nesting birds and small mammals, which favor declining and dead poplars. Among them are the Northern Flicker and chickadees. It is also an important food source for beaver, deer, ruffed grouse, and sharp-tailed grouse.

Its wood is used to make packaging boxes, plywood, and paper pulp.

Along the riverbank, it is planted at a distance of 1.5m in rows, and the trees will be partially felled over a period of 5 to 10 years to allow the noble hardwood species planted in between to grow.

For wood production, a spacing of 3m by 3m to 6m by 6m is used depending on the objectives of the plantation.

Within 5 years, well-established trees will be over 5m tall. Within 10 years, they will be over 10m tall.

Trees are usually felled before 20 years for timber production.

The production of fertile seeds has not yet been evaluated in the individuals we are propagating.
