Schuette oak (Quercus x schuettei) - Zone 3b

Schuette's oak is adaptable to sandy, silty, and clay soils, provided they are well-drained and slightly acidic. They prefer rich, moist, medium-textured soils, but can tolerate dry soils once established. They prefer full sun at maturity and partial shade when young.

Although its parent species are known to provide quality wood for cabinetry and flooring, too little information remains available about the Schuette oak. Given that this cross is derived from the bur oak and the swamp white oak, it is expected that Quercus schuettei will express a mixture of their characteristics.

A large tree, it can grow to 15 to 21 meters high and 10 to 15 meters wide.

This self-sterile tree is wind-pollinated. Another white oak tree is needed to pollinate it.
