Pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) - Zone 4

Quercus robur - This European oak, which produces edible nuts, is very popular in Quebec landscaping. This popularity is due to its hardiness to our climate, its resistance to de-icing salts, its compact, upright habit and its ornamental leaves, which resemble those of the white oak.

Its tendency to form a straight, sturdy trunk makes it a very interesting tree for forestry plantations. That said, it needs maximum light to develop properly and produce nuts.
