Carya ovata - A native tree, the Shagbark Hickory is a rare jewel in the forests of southern Quebec. In addition to being remarkably ornamental, it produces mild nuts that taste similar to pecans.

Local - Zone 4 : Hickories from this selection come from wild trees in the Outaouais region.
New York Select - Zone 5: Hickories from this selection come from trees cultivated by Mennonites. The ease of extraction of the kernel is average for the whole. Some are larger and rounder, while others are more rectangular, with a sweeter taste reminiscent of maple water.

It can reach up to 25 m in height and 60 cm in diameter. It can live up to 200 years and grows rather slowly. The trunk is straight and slender. The top is composed of short branches spread upwards.
