Prunus cerasus x prunus fruticosa : -40C hardy cherry seedling from the ‘’SK‘’ collection, our cherry trees are dwarf cherry seedlings developed by Dr Les Kerr in Saskatchewan.
These cherries can be eaten fresh, frozen, in jam, pies, jellies and sauce. It may be possible to harvest fruit 3 years after transplanting. Maximum production (+- 10kg/plant) is reached 7 years after transplanting. Fruit is harvested from late July to mid-August.
Seedlings from the “SK line”
Among the mother plants from which we collect our dwarf cherry seeds from the “SK line” are the cultivars ‘Romeo’, ‘Juliet’, ‘Carmine Jewel’ and ‘Crimson Passion’.
Seedlings ‘Evans’
The mother plant for this selection is exclusively the ‘Evans’ variety.

Sour cherry trees prefer dry environments with cool, moist, well-drained soil with a pH ranging from 5 to 7. A pH of around 6 is ideal. Full sun exposure will promote good fruiting and reduce the development of fungal diseases.

Variable height from 2m to 2.5m. Variable width from 1.5m to 2.5m.

Although some are self-fertile, most cultivars are self-sterile. They are unable to self-pollinate and require cross-pollination with another plant of a different variety to produce fruit. That said, when it comes to seedlings, they are all different. You will therefore only need two seedlings to achieve good fruit production.
